Introduction

Greetings and welcome to my blog, where I am thrilled to share what I have learned into the interesting fields of design thinking and Artificial Intelligence. After exploring the fundamentals of AI throughout this module, I have discovered an unexpected fact: AI is not as novel as I initially believed. It has been living among us for a while, slowly influencing our surroundings. I came across a variety of areas while reading the course material, including Deep Learning, Prompt Engineering, Large Language Models, and the intriguing concept of hallucinations - mistakes that Artificial Intelligence can make. These revelations caused me to reconsider the ethical and responsible application of this powerful tool and challenged my preconceived notions about AI's infallibility. Besides from AI, I also studied the Introduction to Design Thinking, a methodology whose human-focused approach to solving problems interested me. I started my journey by going through every stage of the Design Thinking process, learning many things about users and coming up with creative solutions to their problems.

The chance to create my own Design Thinking project was one of the most thrilling parts of this module. The process of developing a solution from empathy to prototyping was inspiring, and I think it will significantly improve my capacity to comprehend and assist users going forward. Come along as I share my thoughts, revelations, and lessons from this significant experience.

Reflection on Key Concepts

Along the way of this module, a number of significant ideas have come to light as essential to successful communication with AI systems:

First, it has been noted how important it is to have specific objectives. This means defining exactly what we want to get out of AI support. Without well-defined objectives, AI's ability to provide significant outcomes could be hindered. Second, it has been noted how crucial it is that our instructions to AI have to be specific. We improve the chances of getting precise and pertinent answers by giving assignments that are explicit and well-defined. Instructions that are unclear or vague might cause confusion and less than ideal results. Furthermore, it is now clear that prompt phrasing and structure have a big impact on the AI's capacity to offer relevant responses. The efficacy of AI interactions can be improved by carefully planning and crafting meaningful prompts, ensuring that the desired goals are achieved. Last but not least, it has been determined that remaining courteous in our dealings with AI systems is crucial. Similar to interpersonal encounters, civility and deference facilitate more natural and fruitful conversations. Ignoring to speak in a courteous manner could cause AI to react negatively, which could hinder the interaction's efficacy. For example, when faced with rude language, Copilot and other AI systems have been seen to react negatively. Therefore, acting with politeness when interacting with AI is not only polite, but also helpful in accomplishing our goals.

How did these concepts challenge your previous understanding of English language teaching?

These ideas go beyond with what has been traditionally understood about teaching English language learners by highlighting the significance of precise goals, and clear instructions.

It is possible that general language skills or broad goals have received more attention in English language instruction historically. On the other hand, the focus on precise goals in AI support draws attention to the necessity of precise, quantifiable goals in language learning. This means that in order to ensure that the technology can effectively support their goals, educators must clearly articulate what they hope to accomplish with the help of AI. Instructions may have been more open-ended or generic in traditional teaching methods. The realization of how crucial precise and unambiguous instructions are for AI presents a challenge for educators to improve their communication abilities. It emphasizes how important it is to provide AI systems clear and precise assignments in order to maximize the relevance and precision of the results produced.

How do you plan to apply these concepts in your future teaching?

I want to create a cooperative learning atmosphere where students actively use AI tools, exploring different applications and mastering the underlying ideas. I'll give students the chance to independently play with based on artificial intelligence language tools so they can see the tools' strengths and weaknesses for themselves. In addition, I'll be reviewing and improving my teaching methods on a regular basis in response to student input and AI technology performance. By using an iterative method, I can make sure that my instruction is always dynamic and adaptable to the changing opportunities and needs in based on artificial intelligence language learning. In the end, I hope that by integrating these ideas into my instruction, I will enable students to use AI appropriately for their language learning process and better equip them for the challenges that are ahead.

With a desire to assist and benefit my students, I am excited to set out on a journey using the concepts of design thinking. By means of a methodical approach to empathy, I hope to acquire a profound comprehension of their varied needs, challenges, and opportunities. I aim to gain insights that will direct me in creating creative solutions that are specific to their needs by immersing myself in their viewpoints and actively listening to them. In the end, I want to use design thinking to make experiences that are significant and influential, meeting the needs and ambitions of my audience and promoting mutually beneficial and constructive change.

Can you think of a specific lesson or activity where you could apply what you’ve learned?

One specific lesson or activity where I could apply the concepts learned would be in teaching students how to conduct effective research using online resources.

I would set out the goals of the research work in detail before the class. For example, in order to support an argumentative essay, students may need to locate trustworthy sources on the subject at hand. Students gain a clear understanding of what they need to achieve through their research by having these objectives defined up front.

When instructing students to use AI-powered tools like search engines, I would emphasize the value of being precise with their search formulation. I would assist them in crafting precise searches or search terms to produce the most appropriate results. This ensures that students will quickly and successfully find the information they require. I would show my students how their keyword format affects the search results they get. By comparing situations of clear prompts with others that are not, students may understand how wording affects search results. They can improve their internet search engine optimization strategies as a result of this.

I think about several activities. For example, I can create a lesson with an AI tool to teach a group of students that have problems in specific situations. The lesson would be crafted based on their needs. Also, with help of Microsoft Designer, I can create flashcards to teach kindergarten children, or catchy images to gain my students’ attention if they are not paying attention in my classes. Also, with help from ChatGPT I can ask it to create a code and then paste it on PowePoint to create powerful presentations, and then give them catchy form with Microsoft Office 365. And, talking about powerful presentations, I could create a presentation with an app called Gamma. With that app I am capable of creating powerful presentations from scratch.
